About Lucas
I began taking an interest in art probably much like most people did. As a child, I loved drawing in my free time to escape and exercise my imagination. It's most likely for that reason that I've always taken an interest in the sci-fi and fantasy genres. I loved drawing landscapes and animals, and dinosaurs have always been a fascination of mine.
I mostly stick to Graphite as my medium of choice, and I prefer to digitally add color to preserve the texture and value that I'm able to achieve with pencil. I also use ink in some of my pieces, and others are fully digital paintings. But again, pencils are my first love; something about being able to physically manipulate the value of a piece additives and subtractively and feel the texture of the mark making is incredibly satisfying.
Most of my work is aimed towards journal editorial and fiction novels, however I would never be opposed to museum work or scientific illustration. Nothing gets my creativity going like a really good fantasy novel or studying new wildlife.
I grew up in Elkton, Maryland, not far from the Delaware border, and I spent much time as a child wandering the forests near my house, watching deer and vultures in my backyard, and going on family hikes in nearby parks and trails. I currently live in Lancaster, Pennsylvania, where I attend The Pennsylvania College of Art and Design (PCA&D) for illustration. If you're familiar with the area, you can find me on market days (Tuesday, Friday, Saturday) at Central Market at Inna's Pierogi. (they're delicious by the way)
Before I attended PCA&D, I graduated with my AFA in illustration from the Delaware Collge of Art and Design (DCAD) in Wilmington, Delaware; and it was during my time there that I had one of my pieces featured at the Delaware Contemporary in an exhibition alongside the poem “Object” by Jasmine L. Combs.
If you would like to get in touch with me, my email and phone number are listed below, but if you are going to use my phone number, please text me first with your name and who you are. Spam calls these days make it impossible to know who is real and who is not. If you made it this far, thank you very much for taking the time to read about me, and I hope you enjoy my work.
